Sydney Design Festival

Last Saturday, me, Gogi bro and Mang Chi went to Power House Museum for Sydney Design Festival exhibition. I wasn't aware of this event until i saw it on Gogi bro's blog and thought it'd be interesting to see different industrial design products Sydney had to offer. It was my second time visiting PHM. Coming from non-design background, i wouldn't say everything they exhibited was all to exciting for me. However, there were enough for an average guy like me to keep interested for few hours. If you were really keen, it'd probably take whole day to actually fully understand and how all products and design came about.

The above was one of the Swedish product which interested me. Can you guess what it is? It's an automower. Yeah! It's an automower!! How cool is that? It's only about 3 kgs, noise free and it does all the mowing itself. i.e. If you determine a centre point for it, it would move itself along upto its programmed perimeter and mowe the lawn. And once the batteries goes down, it will go back to its charger and recharge itself. How cool is that? I want one!!!!

There were also some cool design furnitures, pretty glass vases and wool clothings. I guess since Sydney or even Australia as whole is not really an industrialised country and thats probably why we don't have too many of our own designed product. i.e. There really wasn't a necessity for us to design our own product because we don't build one.

But, i imagined, we could do better. There are other countries that are well known for its products. Like Switzerland, obviously with watches, bags and knives. Even Bally, did you know Bally was from Switzerland? i didn't know.

Anyway, my point, we could create and build one like Switzerland. We just have to be creative and push on forward.

Come on Australia!!
